Tgv Cinemas
TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd, also known as TGV Pictures and formerly known as Tanjong Golden Village, is a prominent cinema chain and a key player in the entertainment industry in Malaysia. As of 2024, TGV Cinemas stands as the second largest cinema chain in the country, with a vast network of 40 multiplexes, comprising 325 screens and seating for over 53,000 moviegoers.
The formation of TGV Cinemas was significantly influenced by Orange Sky Golden Harvest, a cinema operator headquartered in Hong Kong. This venture was established as a joint effort with Tanjong PLC of Malaysia and Village Roadshow of Australia. Eventually, Tanjong acquired the remaining stakes, securing full ownership of the cinema operations.
The inaugural TGV cinema opened in 1995 at the Bukit Raja Shopping Centre, marking the company's entry into the Malaysian market. The portfolio of TGV Cinemas expanded rapidly, and by 2005, the chain had established more than 30 cinemas across Malaysia.
TGV Cinemas is headquartered at the Maxis Tower in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Over the years, the cinema chain has maintained a steady growth trajectory, operating 328 screens in 40 locations throughout the country by 2025. This expansion has enabled TGV Cinemas to provide a wide array of cinematic experiences to its audience, ranging from traditional movie screenings to cutting-edge technological experiences like IMAX and 4DX.
The cinematic offerings began with the screening of notable films such as the English movie "King Kong" and the Tamil film "Anniyan," setting a precedent for the diverse range of content that TGV Cinemas would continue to showcase.
TGV Cinemas is renowned for integrating advanced cinematic technologies, enhancing the movie-watching experience. The introduction of IMAX screens and Dolby Atmos sound systems reflects the chain's commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, TGV Cinemas offers unique viewing experiences such as Beanieplex, where audiences can enjoy movies in a relaxed bean bag seating environment, and Indulge, which provides a luxurious cinema setting with gourmet dining options.
TGV Cinemas occupies a commendable position within the Malaysian cinema landscape, competing with major players like Golden Screen Cinemas and other regional chains. Despite facing challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to disruptions in cinema operations worldwide, TGV Cinemas has continued to innovate and adapt to changing market dynamics.
TGV Cinemas remains a pivotal entity in Malaysia's cinematic landscape, continually evolving to meet the needs of its diverse audience while contributing to the growth of the local film industry.
