Sultan Ibrahim Ismail
Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, born on 22 November 1958, is the current Sultan of Johor in Malaysia. He ascended to the throne following the lineage of the Johor royal family, which has been a significant part of Malaysia's history. Sultan Ibrahim's full name is Tunku Ibrahim Ismail ibni Tunku Mahmood Iskandar.
Early Life and Education
Sultan Ibrahim was born during the reign of his great-grandfather, Sultan Sir Ibrahim, which made him part of a long-standing royal legacy. His father, Sultan Iskandar, became the Sultan of Johor in 1981, at which time Ibrahim was proclaimed the Crown Prince of Johor on 3 July 1981.
Sultan Ibrahim received his education at Trinity Grammar School in Australia. His international education provided him with a broad perspective that he brought back to his duties in Johor.
Family
In 1982, he married Raja Zarith Sofiah, and together they have six children, including notable members such as Ismail Idris and Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Sultan Ibrahim is the third child and eldest son of Sultan Iskandar and his first wife, Josephine Ruby Trevorrow, an Englishwoman from Torquay. After her marriage, Trevorrow was known as Khalsom binti Abdullah.
Reign and Contributions
Sultan Ibrahim has continued the legacy of his predecessors by being actively involved in the development and modernization of Johor. He played a symbolic role in driving the last train from the Tanjong Pagar railway station on 30 June 2011. This act was significant as his grandfather, Sultan Ismail, had opened the causeway between Singapore and Malaya in 1923. Sultan Ibrahim's involvement underscored his commitment to maintaining historical ties and honoring familial traditions.
