The current Royal Oak High School was established following the merger of two former high schools, Kimball High School and Dondero High School. Dondero High School, originally known as Royal Oak High School, opened in 1927 and was renamed in honor of Fred Dondero, a significant figure in the Royal Oak education system. The merger was part of a district reorganization to better utilize resources and offer enhanced educational opportunities.
