Petaling Jaya (often abbreviated as PJ) is a city in Selangor, Malaysia. Historical Background
The city was originally developed in the early 1950s post-World War II by Francis McWilliams. It was established on the Effingham Estate, a 1,200-acre rubber plantation, to accommodate the population overflow from Kuala Lumpur. The development commenced with the construction of 800 houses in what is now known as "Old Town", marking the beginning of Petaling Jaya's transformation into a bustling municipality.
The Petaling Jaya Town Authority was established in 1954 and later headed by Encik Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Ali, the first Malayan to oversee the authority. Historically, Petaling Jaya was considered part of Kuala Lumpur until it attained city status.
