Kelana Jaya is a notable suburb located within the city of Petaling Jaya, in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It comprises several sections, namely SS3, SS4, SS5, SS6, and SS7, and is crossed by the Damansara–Puchong Expressway. Kelana Jaya is not only known for its residential and commercial developments but also for the Kelana Jaya Line, a significant component of Kuala Lumpur's public transportation network.

Kelana Jaya Suburb

The suburb is a bustling area with a variety of attractions suitable for both locals and visitors. It features the Paradigm Mall, a significant shopping destination in SS7, which offers a wide range of retail stores, eateries, a cinema, and a Lotus's supermarket. The area is known for its recreational facilities, including the Kelana Jaya Youth Park, which attracts many visitors, particularly on weekends, from other parts of Petaling Jaya and neighboring Subang Jaya.

A prominent feature of the suburb is the Petaling Jaya Stadium, a 20,000-seater venue hosting various sports and community events. Nearby, the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor Sports Complex provides additional recreational opportunities.

Kelana Jaya Line

The Kelana Jaya Line is a light rapid transit (LRT) system that forms part of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System. It is recognized for being the first fully automated and driverless rail system in the region. The line was later extended to connect more parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, facilitating efficient public transportation across the city.

The line's namesake station, Kelana Jaya LRT station, serves as a crucial transit point, and before the line’s extension in 2016, it was the primary terminus. The extension now reaches Putra Heights, reflecting the growing demand for robust transportation infrastructure in the region.

In 2021, the Kelana Jaya Line was notably involved in a collision incident involving a manually-driven empty train and an automated train carrying passengers, highlighting the complexities of maintaining high safety standards in automated transit systems.

Community and Lifestyle

The community in Kelana Jaya is vibrant and diverse, contributing to the area's lively atmosphere. The suburb is home to community-centric facilities such as the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, fostering a strong sense of community and engagement among residents.

With its strategic location, comprehensive amenities, and integration into the wider transportation network, Kelana Jaya remains a key suburb in the Klang Valley, merging urban development with community living.
