Buriram Airport
Buriram Airport, also known as Buri Ram Airport, serves as a crucial gateway for the Buriram Province in Northeastern Thailand. Located in Tambon Ron Thong in the Satuek District, this airport is the only air travel facility in the province, serving both domestic and some regional flights.
The airport is strategically situated in the province to support the travel needs of residents, tourists, and business travelers alike. Its precise address is 143 Village No. 12, Ron Thong Subdistrict, Satuk District, Buriram Province, 31150, Thailand. The Department of Airports (Thailand) oversees its operations, ensuring that it meets both national and international standards for safety and service.
Originally, Buriram Airport could accommodate around 750,000 passengers annually. In 2019, a significant development project was announced to construct a second passenger terminal with an investment of 700 million baht. This expansion aims to increase the airport's capacity to 1.7 million passengers per year, effectively doubling its previous capacity and enhancing its ability to support the growing tourism and sports-related travel to the region.
Buriram Airport is served by major domestic airlines, including Thai AirAsia and Nok Air. These airlines provide regular flights to and from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand.
Buriram is renowned for its sports culture, often dubbed the "City of Sports" in Thailand. The airport plays a vital role in promoting this image by facilitating the influx of domestic and international tourists who visit for sporting events and to explore Buriram's rich cultural heritage.
The airport's expansion and improvements reflect the region's ambitions to become a leading destination for sports and tourism in Thailand. This aligns with the broader strategic development goals of the Thai government to boost regional economies through infrastructure enhancements.
Buriram Airport not only serves as a pivotal transport hub but also acts as a symbol of the regional economic growth and development efforts currently underway in Northeastern Thailand.
