Batik Air
Batik Air, a subsidiary of the Indonesian Lion Air Group, is a full-service airline headquartered at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia. Established in 2012, Batik Air was created to serve the growing demand for premium air travel in Southeast Asia, complementing the offerings of its parent company, Lion Air, which is the largest airline in Indonesia and the second largest in Southeast Asia behind AirAsia.
Batik Air offers a variety of services that distinguish it from other low-cost carriers in the region. Its operations include domestic and international flights, with an emphasis on customer service and in-flight amenities. Passengers can enjoy a comprehensive in-flight experience, which includes meals, entertainment, and comfortable seating arrangements. Batik Air also provides a frequent flyer program, enhancing its appeal to business travelers and frequent commuters.
The airline's fleet predominantly consists of modern Boeing and Airbus aircraft, which are known for their efficiency and reliability. Batik Air serves a wide range of destinations across Indonesia and extends its reach to several international locations, enhancing connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
One notable incident involving Batik Air occurred in 2016 when Batik Air Flight 7703 collided with another aircraft during a takeoff roll at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport. Thankfully, this event did not result in any fatalities, and it brought attention to safety protocols, leading to refinements in operational procedures.
In addition to its operations in Indonesia, Batik Air also has a prominent presence in Malaysia through Batik Air Malaysia, formerly known as Malindo Air. This subsidiary has its headquarters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and functions under the same high standards as its Indonesian counterpart. Batik Air Malaysia serves as a pivotal component of the Lion Air Group's strategy to expand its influence in the Southeast Asian aviation market.
Batik Air is an integral part of the Lion Air Group, which also includes Wings Air and Super Air Jet. This integration allows for shared resources, streamlined operations, and competitive pricing. The combined strength of these airlines enables the Lion Air Group to effectively compete against other major regional players such as AirAsia and Vietnam Airlines.
