History
The university was originally established in March 1982 as Obafemi Awolowo University by the Ondo State Government, under the administration of then-governor Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin. In 1985, the institution was renamed Ondo State University and later relocated to its current site in Akungba-Akoko in 1999.
To honor the late Governor Ajasin, the university underwent another name change to Adekunle Ajasin University. The bill for this name change was signed into law by Governor Adefarati in 2004.
