White River State Park
White River State Park is a prominent urban park located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. This multifaceted park is strategically positioned along the eastern and western banks of the White River, making it a central hub for cultural, recreational, and educational activities.
White River State Park hosts a myriad of attractions that cater to diverse interests:

In December 2020, a significant expansion of White River State Park was announced, involving a 10-acre increase in its footprint. This development is part of a $100 million public-private partnership involving the State of Indiana, the City of Indianapolis, and Elanco, a global animal health company. The expansion will incorporate the redevelopment of the former General Motors site to the south of the park, enhancing its offerings and connectivity.
The new parkland will extend along the west riverbank and feature a portion of the preserved crane bay from the former plant, originally designed by renowned industrial architect Albert Kahn. This area is anticipated to provide new recreational opportunities and greenspace for visitors.
White River State Park is owned and managed by the State of Indiana through the White River State Park Development Commission, a quasi-governmental body comprising ten commissioners. The park, together with the Downtown Canal, forms one of Indianapolis's designated cultural districts, known as Canal and White River State Park. This district plays a vital role in the cultural and social vibrancy of the city, providing residents and tourists with a rich tapestry of arts, culture, and history.
