West Sulawesi, known locally as Sulawesi Barat, is a province of Indonesia located on the western side of the Sulawesi Island, formerly known as Celebes. The province covers a land area of approximately 17,152.99 square kilometers and has its capital at Mamuju.
Geography
West Sulawesi is made up of six regencies (kabupaten): Polewali Mandar, Mamasa, Majene, Mamuju, Central Mamuju, and Pasangkayu (formerly called North Mamuju). The province is bordered by the Macassar Strait and shares maritime borders with East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan to the west.
The Gandang Dewata National Park, centered around the Gandang Dewata mountain, is a significant natural area within the province. Two major rivers, the Karama River and Lariang River, are crucial waterways. The Lariang River forms part of the border between Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi before entering the Macassar Strait.
Political Structure
