Toulouse Olympique

Toulouse Olympique is a professional rugby league club based in Toulouse, in the south-west of France. The team was founded in 1937, two years after the establishment of the French Rugby League. Toulouse Olympique is known for its significant contributions to the sport within France and its participation in the Rugby Football League (RFL) system.

History

The first rugby league club in Toulouse was Gallia de Toulouse, established during the 1935–36 season. However, Gallia de Toulouse only managed to play two matches before reverting to amateur status. Toulouse Olympique was subsequently founded in 1937 by Jean Galia, a pivotal figure in French rugby league history. The club played its inaugural league match on 24 October 1937 against RC Albi at the Arnaune Stadium, now known as the Stade des Minimes.

Competition and Achievements

Toulouse Olympique has seen various degrees of success over the years. In 2016, they rejoined the RFL system, entering League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. They were promoted to the Championship by the end of that season. The club has also competed in the Elite One Championship in France.

The team made notable strides in the 2025 RFL Championship, finishing second in the regular season and eventually winning the championship. This success has bolstered the club's reputation in both French and international rugby league circles.

Ground and Facilities

In 2021, a significant development for Toulouse Olympique was the agreement signed by Didier Lacroix, President of Stade Toulousain rugby union club, and Bernard Sarrazain, President of Toulouse Olympique. This agreement allows Toulouse Olympique to play their home games at the Stade Ernest-Wallon until the end of the 2029 season. This partnership reflects the club's ambition and commitment to enhancing its facilities and infrastructure.

Toulouse Olympique Broncos

The Toulouse Olympique Broncos serve as a semi-professional reserve team for Toulouse Olympique. Initially known as Toulouse Jules-Julien Broncos XIII, they were acquired by Toulouse Olympique in 2012 to act as a feeder team and to compete in the Elite 2 Championship, ensuring a steady development pipeline for future talent.

Notable Players

Toulouse Olympique has been home to several notable players, including Eloni Vunakece, who played as a prop and also represented the Sydney Roosters in the NRL. Another distinguished player is Olly Ashall-Bott, known for his versatility as a fullback or winger.
