Thor: The Norse God of Thunder

Thor, known in Old Norse as Þórr, is one of the most prominent deities in Norse mythology, which is the body of myths belonging to the North Germanic peoples. Thor is famously recognized as the hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, storms, strength, the protection of mankind, and fertility. Origins and Family

Thor is a member of the Aesir tribe of gods and is the son of Odin, the chief of the gods, and Jörð, who is the personification of Earth. He is married to Sif, a goddess associated with fertility and the earth, known for her long golden hair. Thor is also the father of several children, including Magni, Modi, and a daughter named Thrud.

Thor's most iconic possession is his hammer, Mjölnir, which is one of the most fearsome weapons in Norse mythology. It is said to be capable of leveling mountains and is used by Thor to protect Asgard, the realm of the gods, as well as Midgard, the realm of humans. Mjölnir is also a symbol of blessing, hallowing, and protection.

Thor is frequently depicted in myths as a protector of the gods and mankind against the chaotic forces of the jötnar, often referred to as giants. Some of his notable adventures include his fishing expedition to catch the Midgard Serpent, Jörmungandr, a colossal sea serpent; his journey to the land of the giants to retrieve his stolen hammer; and his encounter with the giant Hrungnir, whom he defeats in a duel.

Thor was not only a god of war and strength but also a symbol of agriculture and humanity's daily life. He was widely worshipped across the Norse world, with many Viking warriors invoking his protection in battle. Thor's influence was so pervasive that the day Thursday ("Thor's day") is named after him.
