The Spanish Imperial Eagle, also known as the Spanish eagle, Iberian imperial eagle, or Adalbert's eagle, is a majestic species of eagle native to the Iberian Peninsula. This species is scientifically referred to as Aquila adalberti, a name honoring Prince Adalbert of Bavaria. The Spanish Imperial Eagle is renowned for its distinct "epaulettes" and was historically referred to as the "white-shouldered eagle" in older literature.
Taxonomy and Evolution
Initially, the Spanish Imperial Eagle was considered a subspecies of the Eastern Imperial Eagle, then referred to simply as the imperial eagle. However, it is now widely recognized as a separate species due to significant differences in morphology, ecology, and molecular characteristics. Physical Description
This large raptor bears a close resemblance to its cousin, the Eastern Imperial Eagle, sharing a similar stature.
