Romania
Romania, officially known as the Republic of Romania, is a country located at the crossroads of Central, Eastern, and Southeast Europe. It is bordered by Ukraine to the north, Moldova to the northeast, the Black Sea to the southeast, Bulgaria to the south, Serbia to the southwest, and Hungary to the west. The country is characterized by its diverse geography, which includes the Carpathian Mountains, the Danube River, and the expansive Transylvanian Plateau.
History
The history of Romania is rich and varied, with its roots in the ancient Dacian civilization. The Roman Empire conquered Dacia in the 2nd century AD, and the region became an integral part of the empire. Romania's modern state was formed in 1859 through a personal union of the Danubian Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, and it gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877. Romania became a constitutional monarchy in 1881 and a socialist republic in 1947, before transitioning to democracy in 1989.
