Pune-Bengaluru Expressway
The Pune-Bengaluru Expressway is a proposed 700 km long, 8-lane, Greenfield access-controlled expressway that will significantly enhance the connectivity between Pune in Maharashtra and Bengaluru in Karnataka. This expressway aims to transform the transportation dynamics between these key Indian cities by reducing the travel distance by approximately 95 km and cutting down the travel time from the current 15 hours to just about 7 hours.
Route and Connectivity
The expressway will traverse through several districts across two Indian states:
-
Maharashtra: The expressway will pass through Pune district, Satara district, and Sangli district.
-
Karnataka: It will continue through Vijayapura district, Bagalkote district, Gadag district, Koppal district, Vijayanagara district, Davanagere district, Chitradurga district, Tumakuru district, and Bengaluru North district.
In Pune, the expressway will integrate with the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, which is India's first 6-lane wide concrete, access-controlled tolled expressway. This integration will bolster connectivity to Mumbai and further enhance the transportation network in the region.
Strategic Importance
The Pune-Bengaluru Expressway is part of India's ambitious plan to develop a network of expressways aimed at improving the efficiency of the transportation infrastructure. The expressway is expected to act as a catalyst for regional development, promoting economic growth, and enhancing trade and logistics capabilities in the region.
This expressway is not only set to improve the commute between Pune and Bengaluru but also to alleviate congestion on existing routes and provide a faster alternative for commuters and freight transport. It is aligned with the government's vision of infrastructure development and is expected to have a multiplier effect on the economy by facilitating smoother movement of goods and people.
