Alpha Piscium, also known as Alrescha, is the most notable star in Pisces. This binary star system is approximately 309.8 light-years away and shines with a magnitude of 3.62. The name Alrescha translates to "the cord," referring to the line that connects the two fish in the constellation's mythological depiction.
The Pisces constellation also hosts the spiral galaxy M74, located about 30 million light-years from Earth. This galaxy is noteworthy for its loosely wound spiral arms abundant with young stars and regions of star formation.
The Vernal Equinox
Historically, the vernal equinox occurred when the Sun moved into the Pisces constellation. However, due to the precession of the equinoxes, the equinox currently occurs in Pisces, and the First Point of Aries is now located within its boundaries.
