Transit Lines at Pasar Seni LRT Station
Pasar Seni LRT Station, an integral part of the public transport infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur, serves as a pivotal hub within the city's rapid transit network. It is strategically positioned to facilitate efficient passenger interchange and connectivity across multiple lines, notably the LRT Kelana Jaya Line and the MRT Kajang Line.
LRT Kelana Jaya Line
The Kelana Jaya Line is one of the foremost light rail transit lines in Kuala Lumpur, having commenced operations on 1 September 1998. Initially, the line connected from Subang Depot to Pasar Seni, with subsequent expansions reaching Terminal PUTRA (now known as Gombak). This line is characterized by its fully automated operation, providing seamless transit across various key urban locations. At the Pasar Seni station, the Kelana Jaya Line converges with the MRT Kajang Line, enhancing the cross-functionality of the Kuala Lumpur Integrated Transit Network.
MRT Kajang Line
The MRT Kajang Line further augments the transit capabilities at the Pasar Seni station. It is part of the newer Mass Rapid Transit initiative designed to complement existing lines and alleviate congestion. The connection at Pasar Seni brings additional accessibility to regions beyond the immediate city center, extending towards Kajang.
Station Design and Connectivity
Pasar Seni station is architecturally inspired by the natural formations found at the Bukit Tabur quartz range. The theme of "Confluence," referring to the nearby junction of the Gombak and Klang Rivers, is reflected in its interior design. This thematic representation is metaphorical of the connectivity and intersectionality of the transit lines. The station is equipped with four main entrances and exits, including Entrance A at Jalan Sultan and Entrance B at Jalan Sultan Mohamed.
A pedestrian bridge linking the LRT and MRT sections ensures that passengers can transition smoothly between the lines without exiting the station precincts. The relocation of fare gates and service counters within the station has been executed to enhance commuter flow and accessibility.
Nearby Landmarks
The station is aptly named after the nearby Central Market, a cultural and artistic hub, also known as "Pasar Seni" or "Art Market" in Malay. This proximity makes it an ideal stop for tourists and locals alike, with easy access to Petaling Street and other attractions within the city's heritage zone.
