Non Binary Flag
The non-binary flag is an emblem of pride and visibility for individuals who identify outside the traditional male/female gender binary. This flag was designed by Kye Rowan in 2014 to give representation to those whose gender identity does not conform to the conventional categories of male and female.
The non-binary flag consists of four horizontal stripes, each with a specific color and meaning:
Gender identity is the personal conception of oneself as male, female, a blend of both, or neither. It is how individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. One's gender identity can be the same or different from the sex assigned at birth.
The term non-binary or genderqueer is used for gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine. They are identities that are outside the binary paradigms. This classification includes, but is not limited to:
In recent years, multiple countries have begun to legally recognize non-binary or third-gender classifications, acknowledging the rights of those whose gender identity does not fit into the binary system. This movement towards recognition has involved changes in legal documents and regulations, providing a foundation for equal rights and protections for non-binary individuals.
Flags like the non-binary flag serve as powerful symbols for the LGBTQ+ community, providing visibility and unity. The transgender flag and the pansexual flag serve similar roles, each representing different segments within the community and their unique identities.
