Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai (Marathi: नवी मुंबई), formerly known as New Bombay until 1995, is a prominent city located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, part of the Konkan Division in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. This well-planned city is situated on the mainland opposite Salsette Island, where the city of Mumbai is located.

Urban Development

Navi Mumbai is renowned for being one of the largest planned townships in the world. It was designed to decongest Mumbai and spread the population across Raigad and Thane districts. The city was conceptualized and developed by CIDCO, which stands for the City and Industrial Development Corporation.

One of the hallmark achievements of Navi Mumbai is its ranking in cleanliness and hygiene. The city has consistently ranked third in the Swachh Survekshan, a nationwide sanitation survey, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Navi Mumbai International Airport

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is under construction and is set to be a major transportation hub. Located in the Ulwe suburb, this airport is expected to alleviate the congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and provide seamless connectivity across regions.

Navi Mumbai Metro

The Navi Mumbai Metro is a developing rapid transit system aimed at improving intra-city connectivity. This metro project forms part of the broader initiative to enhance connectivity within and around the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will connect Navi Mumbai to the city of Mumbai. This sea bridge is expected to further integrate Navi Mumbai into the metropolitan area and support urban expansion.

Municipal Governance

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), established on December 17, 1991, governs the city. The corporation is responsible for civic infrastructure and administration. Under its purview, Navi Mumbai has undergone significant urban development and modernization projects.

Kharghar

Kharghar is one of the prominent nodes in Navi Mumbai, located at the northern tip of Raigad District. It is an emerging suburban area known for its educational institutions and real estate developments.
