As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 132,524, and it forms part of the larger Midland–Odessa combined statistical area, which had a population of 340,391.
History
The city of Midland was founded in 1881 as a midway point between Fort Worth and El Paso on the Texas and Pacific Railway. The city's name reflects its geographical positioning. Midlanders have been an integral part of the city's growth and development, contributing significantly to its cultural and economic landscape.
Significant historical events include the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Avery v. Midland County, in 1967.
