Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan (EYD: Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, born 28 September 1947) is a prominent Indonesian politician, businessman, and retired four-star Army general. He has held numerous influential positions in both the Indonesian government and the private sector. As of October 2024, he has been serving as Chairperson of the National Economic Council.

Early Life and Education

Luhut was born in Simargala, a small hamlet in Toba, North Sumatra, as the eldest child and only son among five siblings. His father, Bonar Pandjaitan, was a retired soldier who later became a bus driver for Sibualbuali and an executive for Caltex Petroleum Corporation. Bonar was further educated at Cornell University in the United States from where he graduated as an engineer.

Personal Life

Luhut married Devi Simatupang on 27 November 1970, and the couple has four children: Paulina, David, Paulus, and Kerri Pandjaitan. Paulus followed in his father's footsteps, serving as a major in Kopassus, the special forces group of the Indonesian Army.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has had a distinguished career both in the military and in politics. He is a retired four-star general and has held key positions in the Indonesian government.
