Local Government Areas in Nigeria

Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria represent the third tier of government, below the state governments and the federal government. As of the latest data, Nigeria is divided into 768 LGAs and 6 Area Councils, making a total of 774. Each LGA is governed by a local government council, which includes a chairman who acts as the chief executive, and other elected members referred to as councillors.

Administrative Structure

Chairman and Councillors

The chairman of an LGA is the chief executive officer, tasked with overseeing the administration of the area. Supporting the chairman is a legislative body composed of councillors.
