La Pampa Province is a sparsely populated region located in the Pampas of central Argentina. This province is bordered by several other provinces: to the north lies San Luis, to the northeast Córdoba, to the east Buenos Aires, to the south Río Negro, to the southwest Neuquén, and to the west Mendoza.
Geography and Climate
The province of La Pampa is primarily characterized by its vast plains, typical of the Pampas region. The climate here varies significantly, with mean annual precipitation ranging from 260 mm (10 in) in the southwest to 820 mm (32 in) in the northeast. Most precipitation occurs from October to March, and the winters tend to be dry. The precipitation is often unpredictable and is mainly brought about by frontal systems.
Economy
Historically, La Pampa has been one of Argentina’s most agriculturally productive regions. In 2006, its economic output was estimated at US$3.144 billion, which translated to about US$10,504 per capita—around 20% above the national average.
