Geography and Geology

The area also features vast wilderness areas and is a part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, which was shaped by extensive glaciation during the last Ice Age.

The creation of Kings Canyon National Park was largely influenced by the push to protect its natural landscapes from logging and exploitation. It was established in conjunction with Sequoia National Park, and together they are managed as Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks by the National Park Service.
