Kenya Country
Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country located in East Africa. It boasts a diverse geographical landscape that ranges from the coastal regions along the Indian Ocean to the grassy savannahs and the towering peaks of Mount Kenya. With an estimated population exceeding 53.3 million people as of mid-2025, Kenya is a multi-ethnic state, rich in cultural diversity and natural beauty.
Kenya is bordered by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, Tanzania to the southwest, and Uganda and Lake Victoria to the west. Its capital city, Nairobi, is located in the south-central part of the country and is the largest city.
The country experiences a varied climate, with equatorial heat in the coastal regions, moderate temperatures in the central areas, and cool temperatures in the highlands, particularly around Mount Kenya. The Great Rift Valley runs through Kenya, contributing to its diverse topography and hosting a variety of wildlife.
The region now known as Kenya has been inhabited since the beginning of the Lower Paleolithic period. The Bantu expansion brought about significant cultural and linguistic changes in the area. During the colonial period, Kenya became a British colony, which led to the infamous Mau Mau rebellion, an armed conflict between the Kenya Land and Freedom Army and the British authorities. Kenya gained independence in 1963 and remains a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Kenya is a presidential representative democratic republic, where elected officials represent the people. The President serves as both the head of state and of government. The country's current constitution, adopted in 2010, replaced the original 1963 constitution, paving the way for significant political reforms.
The economy of Kenya is market-based, with several state enterprises. It is an emerging market, exhibiting average industrialization compared to other African nations. Key economic sectors include agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and services. Kenya is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and International Monetary Fund.
