Keluarga Malaysia

Keluarga Malaysia (Malay for "Malaysian Family") is a national concept introduced by Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his tenure as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia on August 22, 2021. This initiative was part of his inaugural speech and aimed at fostering unity, inclusivity, and togetherness among the diverse ethnicities and cultures within Malaysia.

Background

The concept of Keluarga Malaysia was developed in response to the challenges faced by Malaysia amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which had significant social and economic impacts. It sought to unify the nation's multicultural populace under a single national identity, emphasizing the values of inclusion and mutual respect among the Malaysian people.

Objectives

Keluarga Malaysia was designed with several objectives:

  1. Unity and Cohesion: To strengthen the sense of national unity and cohesion among Malaysia's various ethnic and cultural groups, including Malays, Chinese, Indians, and indigenous communities.

  2. Economic Recovery: To aid in the economic recovery of Malaysia by promoting policies that benefit all Malaysians, regardless of their background.

  3. Social Well-being: To enhance social welfare systems, particularly for those affected by the pandemic, and to support vulnerable groups through initiatives like the Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia, which assists children orphaned by COVID-19.

Implementation

The Keluarga Malaysia concept was implemented through various governmental policies and programs. These included:

  • Promoting inclusive economic growth to ensure equal opportunities for all Malaysians.
  • Launching health initiatives to combat the pandemic and improve public health infrastructure.
  • Enhancing education and skill development opportunities for youths and marginalized groups.

Replacement by Malaysia Madani

In 2023, the Keluarga Malaysia concept was replaced by Malaysia Madani, a new national policy introduced by the administration that followed Ismail Sabri. Malaysia Madani aimed to build on the principles of Keluarga Malaysia with an added focus on sustainability, civic responsibility, and innovation.
