Iranian Plateau
The Iranian Plateau, also referred to as the Persian Plateau, is a significant geological feature that spans multiple regions in Central Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and the Caucasus. The plateau is a crucial part of the broader Middle Eastern landscape, playing a pivotal role in the region's geological and cultural history.
The Iranian Plateau is primarily bounded by the formidable Zagros Mountains to the west and extends eastward to the Indus River in Pakistan. It incorporates territories such as East Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran and touches on regions in Afghanistan and parts of Turkmenistan and Iraqi Kurdistan. This area is known for its rugged terrain and higher elevations compared to the neighboring Anatolian Plateau.
Geologically, the plateau was formed through complex processes involving the accretion of Gondwanan terranes between the Turan Platform to the north and the Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt. This suture zone marks the collision point between the Arabian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, which contributes to the plateau's seismic activity.

It has been home to a variety of Iranian peoples, such as the Persians, who speak the Iranian languages.
