International Socialist Tendency
The International Socialist Tendency (IST) is an international coalition of revolutionary socialist organizations, founded on the ideas of Tony Cliff, a renowned Trotskyist theorist. Cliff established this movement to promote "unorthodox" Trotskyism, differentiating it from other Trotskyist international organizations such as the Fourth International.
Origins and Philosophy
The IST's intellectual and organizational roots can be traced back to the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) in the United Kingdom, which Cliff founded. Unlike many Trotskyist organizations that adhere strictly to the doctrine of Leon Trotsky, the IST advocates a theory known as "state capitalism." This perspective suggests that the Soviet Union was not a true socialist society but rather a form of capitalism under state control.
Structure and Member Organizations
The International Socialist Tendency is not a centralized organization but rather a network of independent groups. These groups share a common set of political beliefs and work collaboratively to promote the ideas of socialism and revolution.
