The Golden Quadrilateral (Hindi: Svarnim Chaturbhuj; abbreviated as GQ) is a significant highway network in India, connecting some of the country's most crucial economic and cultural centers. The project forms part of the National Highways Development Project, which was launched by the Government of India to improve road infrastructure across the nation.

Development
The development of the Golden Quadrilateral was a major undertaking initiated under Phase I of the National Highways Development Project. The entire project was estimated to cost ₹540 billion, equivalent to ₹2.3 trillion or US$27 billion in 2023. The goal was to enhance road connectivity and improve logistics across major urban centers, contributing significantly to economic growth.

The implementation of the Golden Quadrilateral has had a profound impact on India's economy. It has facilitated smoother and faster transportation of goods and people between the major industrial and agricultural hubs. This has not only enhanced domestic trade but also attracted foreign investments by improving infrastructure.
The network also connects several important railway lines, such as the New Delhi–Mumbai main line, Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line, and Howrah–Chennai main line, further integrating India's transport systems.

In conjunction with the Golden Quadrilateral, the Dedicated Freight Corridors project was proposed to enhance the efficiency of goods transportation across India. Additionally, the Diamond Quadrilateral project was conceived to establish high-speed rail connectivity among the same key cities linked by the GQ.
Challenges
The ambitious scope of the Golden Quadrilateral project did not come without challenges. Issues such as land acquisition, environmental concerns, and corruption have posed significant hurdles. One notable incident was the murder of Satyendra Dubey, a whistleblower who exposed corruption within the project.
