Genting Highlands is a renowned mountain resort located in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. Nestled on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali, approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, it is a popular holiday destination due to its cool climate and extensive entertainment options. The resort complex is part of the larger Genting Group, a multinational conglomerate founded by Lim Goh Tong.

History

The development of Genting Highlands was initiated by the visionary entrepreneur Lim Goh Tong in the mid-20th century. He perceived the potential of the location in Genting Sempah, about 58 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, to become a top-tier resort. The Genting Highlands project began with the establishment of a private company, originally named Genting Highlands Berhad, which evolved into the present-day Genting Group.

Transportation and Access

Genting Highlands is accessible via several transportation methods. The Genting Sempah–Genting Highlands Highway is the primary road connecting the resort to the rest of the region. Additionally, two notable cable car systems, the Genting Skyway and the Awana Skyway, provide scenic aerial routes to the resort. The Genting Skyway connects Gohtong Jaya, Selangor to the resort hotel in Pahang, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.

Genting Highlands is home to a variety of attractions that cater to diverse interests. The resort features several hotels, a casino, multiple dining establishments, and entertainment venues. A central attraction is the Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, a sprawling amusement park that offers an array of themed rides and experiences. The park significantly enhances the appeal of Genting Highlands as a family-friendly destination.

Accommodation

The resort offers a range of accommodations, including the Highlands Hotel, which was previously known as Maxims Genting. For those seeking a unique residential experience, the Amber Court apartment complex provides an alternative lodging option with its two 23-storey towers.

Incidents

While Genting Highlands is generally a safe and enjoyable destination, it has experienced incidents such as the 2013 Genting Highlands bus crash, which remain a part of its history. This tragic event highlighted the importance of road safety in the region.
