The Fountain of Apollo, known in French as the Bassin d'Apollon, is a captivating feature located in the Gardens of the Palace of Versailles, France. Historical Context
The Palace of Versailles was a key political and cultural hub during the reign of King Louis XIV. The gardens, in which the Fountain of Apollo is situated, were designed by the renowned landscape architect André Le Nôtre. The fountain itself was completed between 1668 and 1671 by the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Tuby, who worked under the direction of Charles Le Brun.
Symbolism and Design
The Fountain of Apollo is designed as a grand baroque composition at the center of the gardens. It features a stunning representation of Apollo, the Greek god of the sun, bursting forth from the water on his chariot.
