History
Inaugurated in 1912, the Ferrocarril de Sóller was established to facilitate the transport of citrus fruits, particularly oranges and lemons, from Sóller, which was relatively isolated due to its location within a valley surrounded by the Tramuntana mountain range. Prior to the railway's construction, transporting goods to Palma required a long and arduous journey over mountainous terrain. The railway provided a more efficient and reliable means of transportation, significantly impacting the local economy and accessibility.
Route and Features
The railway runs on a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge track, a rarity in modern European rail networks. The line stretches approximately 27.3 kilometers (about 17 miles), traversing a variety of landscapes, including farmland, rugged mountains, and tunnels. Notably, the route includes a 2.8-kilometer-long tunnel, which was a significant engineering feat at the time of construction.

Tranvía de Sóller
Complementing the Ferrocarril de Sóller is the Tranvía de Sóller, a heritage tramway that extends from the Sóller railway station to the coastal village of Port de Sóller.
