Beverly Kim was raised in Downers Grove, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, by her Korean immigrant parents. Her interest in the culinary arts was sparked during her high school years. Demonstrating early initiative, she reached out to local chefs, which led to an internship with Sarah Stegner at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago. Pursuing her passion, she attended Kendall College, graduating with a degree in culinary arts in 2000.
After completing culinary school, Beverly Kim began her professional journey at the Ritz-Carlton, before moving on to the prestigious Charlie Trotter's, a landmark restaurant in Chicago. Her career trajectory continued at Prairie Grass Cafe, where she reunited with Sarah Stegner.
Beverly's talents were soon recognized, leading her to become the executive chef at several esteemed establishments, including Opera and Aria in the Fairmont Hotel, Chicago.
In 2011, Beverly Kim gained national attention as a contestant on the ninth season of the television show Top Chef, titled Top Chef: Texas.
