The Anglican Schools Corporation (ASC) is a major provider of education services in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. Founded in 1992, the corporation was established to assume ownership and management of five existing schools, initially including Roseville College, Danebank, Claremont, St Luke's Grammar, and Peninsular Boys Grammar (now closed).
History
The corporation commenced operations in 1992 and has undergone various strategic changes since its inception. In 1995, Archbishop Harry Goodhew encouraged the development of low-fee Anglican schools, particularly in the Western Sydney areas of the diocese. This initiative aimed to make Anglican education more accessible to families on moderate incomes, countering the concentration of Anglican schools in the more affluent eastern and northern areas of Sydney.
Despite its initiatives, the ASC has faced challenges in competing with systemic Catholic schools that benefit from higher levels of government funding. Consequently, the ASC has had to maintain its fees at a higher rate, limiting access for some families.
In December 2002, the Standing Committee of the diocese requested a comprehensive review of the ASC's operations. This review aimed to align the corporation's activities with the Diocesan Mission and to consider potential adjustments in educational plans, financial strategies, and governance.
