The Air Force Test Center (AFTC) is a critical development and test organization within the United States Air Force. As a part of the Air Force Materiel Command, the AFTC is responsible for the research, development, testing, and evaluation of aerospace systems, spanning from concept through to deployment. Since the era of World War II, the center has test flown every aircraft in the Army Air Force's and the Air Force's inventory.

Edwards Air Force Base

Eglin Air Force Base
Located in Florida, Eglin Air Force Base hosts the 96th Test Wing. Formerly known as the 96th Air Base Wing, it is responsible for the test and evaluation of air-delivered weapons and navigation systems for the Air Force.
Arnold Engineering Development Complex
The Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee falls under the control of the AFTC. It provides testing capabilities for developing and evaluating complex aerospace systems.
Historical Context
On 6 July 2012, the previous Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) was redesignated as the Air Force Test Center. Before this reorganization, the AFTC consisted of two subordinate wings:
- 95th Air Base Wing: Provided installation support for all units at Edwards AFB.
- 412th Test Wing: Conducted aircraft testing and evaluation.
The reorganization in 2012 also brought the 96th Test Wing at Eglin AFB and the Arnold Engineering Development Complex under the AFTC's purview.
