A Quickie Television Series
A Quickie is a term used to describe short-form television content that is typically concise and designed to be consumed quickly. This format has been adopted by various television networks and streaming platforms to cater to audiences looking for brief yet engaging entertainment. One notable example of a quickie television series is The 8TV Quickie.
The 8TV Quickie was a short variety show that aired on 8TV, a Malaysian television network. The show premiered on January 8, 2004, coinciding with the launch of 8TV. It was designed to be a quick, entertaining segment that aired multiple times throughout the evening.
The show initially aired twice every night for 15 minutes, with time slots at 9:30 PM and 11:45 PM on weeknights, and at 10:30 PM and 11:45 PM on weekends. In 2005, the format was adjusted, and the 9:30 PM edition was shortened to a one-minute slot, while the 11:30 PM edition continued as a 15-minute segment.
Over the years, The 8TV Quickie featured various hosts, including Jun Yong, Phat Fabes, Nadia Nash, and Marion Caunter. The show included a mix of entertainment news, celebrity interviews, and interactive segments with the audience.
In March 2016, it was announced that The 8TV Quickie would be ending its run on traditional television due to a new programming schedule that focused primarily on Chinese-language content. The final episode aired on March 31, 2016. However, it was also announced that the show would continue to be produced in alternative formats on other media platforms.
