3D Touch is a technology developed by Apple Inc. that enables pressure-sensitive touch interaction on devices, allowing users to access different functions and shortcuts based on the force of their touch. This innovation was hailed for enhancing the user interface by adding a new dimension of interaction that went beyond simple capacitive touch technology.
3D Touch was introduced with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, marking an evolution from the previous Force Touch technology found in Apple's MacBook trackpads and the Apple Watch. Unlike Force Touch, which could recognize varying levels of pressure, 3D Touch was integrated into the display itself, allowing for multiple pressure sensitivity levels.
The implementation of 3D Touch required additional hardware components, contributing to the increased weight of the iPhone 6s models compared to their predecessors. This hardware included a capacitive sensor integrated into the display, providing feedback to the operating system through a sophisticated pressure-sensing algorithm.

The shift from 3D Touch to Haptic Touch became evident with the release of iOS 13, which standardized Haptic Touch across newer iPhone models. The decision reflected a strategic move to simplify hardware while maintaining a similar user experience.
