Expansion in Rajasthan
UCIL is expanding its operations beyond Jharkhand, with significant progress in Rajasthan. Uranium deposits have been discovered in the Rohil area of Sikar district, prompting the local government to issue a Letter of Interest to UCIL. This expansion is vital for increasing India's uranium production. The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research found substantial uranium oxide deposits in areas such as Rohil, Jahaz, and Geratiyon ki Dhani.
Challenges and Criticism
UCIL's operations have not been without challenges. Local communities have raised concerns regarding radiation exposure from mining activities. This has prompted UCIL and governmental bodies to implement stringent safety measures and engage with communities to address health and safety concerns.
