Roger Cook: Australian Politician
Roger Hugh Cook (born 20 August 1965) is a prominent Australian politician who has been serving as the 31st and current Premier of Western Australia since 2023. Cook is the leader of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
Early Life and Education
Roger Cook was born on 20 August 1965. His early engagement in politics began during his time in student politics, where he served as the first president of the National Union of Students. This role highlighted his early leadership skills and his commitment to advocating for student rights and issues.
Career Before Politics
Before entering parliament, Cook worked as a public relations consultant. He was also involved in management roles with Aboriginal corporations, demonstrating his commitment to Aboriginal advocacy. Cook served as a policy coordinator for the Western Australian Aboriginal Native Title Working Group and as CEO of the Yamatji Marlpa Barna Baba Maaja Aboriginal Corporation. Additionally, he worked as a government relations manager for the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council.
