Palm Beach Gardens, Florida is a city located in northern Palm Beach County, Florida, USA, approximately 80 miles north of Miami. Known for its lush landscapes and golf courses, Palm Beach Gardens offers a unique blend of natural beauty and upscale living.

History

The city was founded in 1959 by the wealthy landowner and insurance magnate John D. MacArthur. MacArthur initially planned to develop 4,000 acres of land to create a community for 55,000 residents. He named the city "Palm Beach Gardens" after his initial choice, "Palm Beach City," was rejected due to its similarity to the nearby Palm Beach.

MacArthur aimed to build a "garden city" and emphasized environmental preservation, famously stating, "I built Palm Beach Gardens without knocking one tree down." The banyan tree became a symbol of this effort.

Economy and Development

Palm Beach Gardens is renowned for its vibrant economy, largely driven by the presence of luxury shopping centers, including The Gardens Mall, which features high-end retailers like Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Saks Fifth Avenue. The city also hosts the headquarters of several corporations, contributing to its economic growth.

A notable landmark, the Bonnette Hunt Club Lodge on Hood Road, originally known for quail hunting, has been transformed into the golf courses for the Mirasol Country Club.

Education

The city takes pride in its educational institutions, including the Palm Beach Gardens Community High School, which serves as a public magnet high school for grades 9–12. The school, known for its diverse curriculum, has a Gator as its mascot.

Religious and Cultural Sites

One of the key religious landmarks is the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, which serves as the seat of the Diocese of Palm Beach. Another significant establishment is the megachurch Christ Fellowship, which has a substantial congregation across multiple locations in South Florida.
