Chatham University
Chatham University is a distinguished private institution located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Established in 1869, it originally functioned as a women's college known as the Pennsylvania Female College. History and Evolution
Chatham University was founded to provide higher education opportunities specifically for women, at a time when such opportunities were limited. It was renamed several times before adopting its current name in 1955, in honor of William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, a British statesman after whom the city of Pittsburgh is also named.
In 2007, Chatham transitioned to a coeducational institution, opening its doors to male students, thus broadening its mission and scope.
