Miguel Induráin
Miguel Induráin Larraya (born 16 July 1964) is a retired Spanish road racing cyclist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest cyclists in history, most notably for his five consecutive victories in the Tour de France from 1991 to 1995. Induráin was known for his exceptional ability in time-trials, his endurance, and his tactical intelligence.
Early Life
Miguel Induráin was born in the village of Villava, now part of Pamplona, in the Navarra region of Spain. He grew up in a family with three sisters—Isabel, María Dolores, and María Asunción—and a brother, Prudencio Induráin, who also pursued a career in professional cycling.
Cycling Career
Induráin's professional career is marked by his dominance in the Tour de France, where he remains the only cyclist to have won five consecutive titles. His victories in the Tour are matched only by cycling legends like Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, and Bernard Hinault, each of whom also have five wins, though not consecutively.
Vuelta a España
In September 1996, Induráin competed in the Vuelta a España but unexpectedly dropped out on the Mirador del Fito, just 30 km from the stage finish at Covadonga. His decision to retire from the race was influenced by strained relations with his team manager, José Miguel Echavarri, following an unsuccessful attempt at the hour record in Colombia in October 1995.
Retirement and Legacy
After retiring from professional cycling, Induráin dedicated his time to promoting sports in the Navarra region through the establishment of the Miguel Induráin Foundation in 1998. He divides his time between Pamplona and his residence in Palma de Mallorca with his wife, Marisa, and their three children.

Formerly known as the "Grand Prix Navarre," the race is part of the UCI Europe Tour and begins and ends in Estella, a town in Navarra. The race has become a significant event in the European cycling calendar, attracting top cycling talent from around the world.
