Legazpi City is a vibrant component city and the capital of the province of Albay, located in the Philippines. Situated on the western shore of the Albay Gulf, it is approximately 560 km by road southeast of the capital city, Manila. The city serves as the principal gateway to the Bicol Region.

History

Originally a pre-Hispanic coastal village known as Sawangan, it evolved into a Spanish mission town by 1587. The city was renamed in 1856 to honor the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi, a prominent Basque figure who played a significant role in the colonization of the Philippines.
