Mass Rapid Transit Kajang Line
The Mass Rapid Transit Kajang Line, previously known as the MRT Sungai Buloh–Kajang Line, is a significant component of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System in Malaysia. It serves as a major transportation artery within the Klang Valley, a region that includes the country's capital, Kuala Lumpur, and surrounding areas.
The Kajang Line is part of the broader Rapid KL system operated by Prasarana Malaysia. This line connects the northwestern sector of the Klang Valley with the southeastern region, encompassing a total distance of approximately 51 kilometers. The line features 31 stations, beginning at Kwasa Damansara and culminating at Kajang, a town located in the Hulu Langat District, Selangor.
Development and Expansion
The Kajang Line was developed as part of the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley plan to enhance public transportation and reduce traffic congestion. Construction began in 2011, with the line opening in two phases. Phase One, from Sungai Buloh to Semantan, opened in December 2016, while Phase Two, extending from Semantan to Kajang, became operational in July 2017.
Key Interchanges and Connectivity
The line is designed to offer seamless connectivity with other transit lines in the Klang Valley. Key interchange stations include:
- Muzium Negara: Connects with the Kelana Jaya Line at KL Sentral, an important transport hub.
- Pasar Seni: Links with the Sri Petaling Line.
- Bandar Malaysia: Provides interchange with the future High Speed Rail project.
Infrastructure and Technology
The Kajang Line features state-of-the-art technology, utilizing driverless trains manufactured by Siemens Inspiro. Each train is designed to carry approximately 1,200 passengers, and stations are equipped with modern facilities, including automated fare collection systems and barrier-free access for individuals with disabilities.
