High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is a key player in the complex system of lipoproteins, which are essential for lipid transport within the body. Classification

Health Implications

High levels of HDL are generally associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular diseases. This is contrasted with high levels of LDL, often termed "bad cholesterol", which can lead to plaque buildup in arteries. The balance between HDL and LDL is crucial for cardiovascular health.

Certain lifestyle factors, such as regular physical activity, a healthy diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and moderate alcohol consumption, can help increase HDL levels in the blood. Conversely, smoking and obesity can lower HDL levels.
