Felipe VI, born Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Grecia on January 30, 1968, is the current King of Spain. He ascended to the throne on June 19, 2014, following the abdication of his father, Juan Carlos I. As the head of state, Felipe VI symbolizes the unity and permanence of the Spanish state.
Early Life and Education
Felipe VI was born in Madrid, the capital of Spain, into the House of Bourbon, a European royal house of French origin. His parents are Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia, who has Greek and German descent. Felipe VI has two elder sisters, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina.
He received his primary and secondary education at schools in Spain, followed by military training at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, the Naval Military School of Marín, and the General Air Academy of San Javier. He later attended the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he earned a degree in Law. Additionally, he completed a Master's program in International Relations at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., fostering connections that would later benefit his diplomatic endeavors.
Career and Duties
Before becoming king, Felipe VI held the title Prince of Asturias. In this role, he represented Spain on numerous official occasions, both domestically and abroad. He also served as a goodwill ambassador for Spanish interests internationally.
