Daniel Coulter Reynolds
Daniel Coulter Reynolds (born July 14, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is best known as the lead vocalist and a founding member of the pop rock band Imagine Dragons, which he formed in 2008.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan Reynolds is the seventh of nine children. He attended Brigham Young University (BYU) where he studied communications, but his passion for music led him to pursue a career in the industry. It was during his time at BYU that he participated in and won the university's "Battle of the Bands."
Musical Career
Formation of Imagine Dragons
In 2008, Dan Reynolds formed Imagine Dragons with several other musicians. The band initially performed at local venues and gained a following through their energetic live performances. The early lineup saw several changes, but the most significant formation included Wayne Sermon on guitar and Ben McKee on bass. Daniel Platzman later joined as the drummer.
Breakthrough and Success
Imagine Dragons achieved mainstream success with their debut album, "Night Visions," released in 2012. The album included hit singles like "It's Time" and "Radioactive," the latter of which became one of the best-selling singles in U.S. history. The band's success was marked by various awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance for "Radioactive."
Dan Reynolds' role as a creative force in the band has been pivotal. In 2013, he discovered the alternative band X Ambassadors and facilitated their record deal with KidinaKorner/Interscope Records. Reynolds also co-wrote several songs on X Ambassadors' debut album "VHS."
Personal Life
Dan Reynolds married Aja Volkman, lead singer of the band Nico Vega, in 2011. The couple formed a duo called Egyptian and released an EP. They have four children, including twin daughters.
Outside of his music career, Reynolds is known for his philanthropy and activism, particularly related to LGBTQ+ rights. He founded the LOVELOUD Festival to support LGBTQ+ youth.
