Dan Marino was born on September 15, 1961, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Daniel and Veronica Marino. Of Italian and Polish ancestry, Marino was the oldest of three children, having two younger sisters, Cindi and Debbie. Marino attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, where he first showcased his exceptional football abilities.
Following high school, Marino played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. As a Panther, Marino set numerous records and led the team to several significant victories, making him a top prospect for the NFL draft.

Marino was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft. He quickly became the starting quarterback, leading the team to a 12-4 record in his rookie season. Over his career, Marino played 242 games and amassed 61,361 passing yards and 420 touchdowns. Despite his many accomplishments, one notable gap in Marino's career is that he never won a Super Bowl.

In 1984, Marino threw for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns, both records at the time.
