Congress of Deputies (Spain)
The Congress of Deputies (Spanish: Congreso de los Diputados) is the lower house of the Cortes Generales, the legislative branch of Spain. It shares legislative responsibilities with the upper house, the Senate of Spain. Established under the current Spanish Constitution in 1978, the Congress of Deputies plays a crucial role in the governance and political structure of Spain.
Structure and Composition
The Congress of Deputies is composed of between 300 and 400 members, though in practice it is usually 350. The members, known as deputies, are elected by popular vote. Spain is divided into 52 constituencies, corresponding to the 50 provinces and the two autonomous cities, Ceuta and Melilla. Electoral System
