Club Deportivo Guabirá was established on April 14, 1962, by the workers of the Guabirá sugar mill. The main impetus for its creation was to have a team that could represent the sugar mill and the province of Santistevan along with its capital, Montero. Originally named "Club Deportivo Socio Cultural Guabirá," it was founded to participate in local tournaments organized by the Asociación Cruceña de Fútbol. The club's inaugural president was Sixto Hurtado.
